Carmina Burana
Composed by German composer Carl Orff, Carmina Burana
is a scenic cantata and one of the most famous and popular
choral pieces of the 20th Century. The piece celebrates
our most human joys and desires: the fickleness of fortune
and wealth, the ephemeral nature of life, the joy of
the return of Spring, and the pleasures and perils of
drinking, gluttony, gambling and lust. It opens and
ends with the famous chorus O Fortuna, an acceptance
that all these human endeavours and feelings rest in
the hands of Fate.
In 2005, at the Rundfunkchor's first Sing-Along Concert
at Berliner Philharmonie, 1300 singers came together
to perform this celebrated piece. The concert was a
huge success, proven by the continuing evolution and
popularity of the Sing-Along concert series.
